Ever been to a party or festival and seen the overflowing trash cans everywhere by the end of it? Guess what? It does not have to be that way! COMPOSTABLE!!! There are so many companies making compostable cups, plates, utensils, garbage bags.... It is a little bit more money but in the long run you are helping save the planet. And why would you want to throw a party for you 6 year olds birthday and use nothing but stuff that is going to hurt the planet that he has to continue to live on? It just doesn't make sense. Here is what I think of when offering elopements, bridal showers, baby showers and other events up here on the tiny farm.
~Can you use glasses and dishes from home or a thrift store? It can be fun to get a bunch of mixed match glasses/dishes or ball jars.
Sometimes though there are too many folks for that option and compostable is the way to go.
~Can you get creative and use items from home or ask around to friends for decor options?
Some of the most beautifully decorated events I have ever done were all put together with old rugs, pillows, vases, bowls, pallets, and greenery from around the yard.
~Party Favors. Can we just stop with party favors? Nobody wants all the junk. If you feel you must do a party favor though. Then opt for something made that is useful or a plant! I am sure there are some great pinterest boards out there for creative party favors. Just think every time... Can I find this used? Can I use something else I already have? Can you buy it from a local source?
~Food and Beverages... Kegs are the best way to go for beer but if you do cans or bottles always remember to set up recycling cans. There are even kegged wines these days! Food is always best to do a potluck or cater with a company you know has a good reputation for quality and forward green thinking.
